Infection’s Progression and Why Proper Limb Care and Hygiene Is Essential In Maintaining Your Residual Limb!
These are pictures of my legs shortly before the decision was made to amputate the right side below the knee. An infection had set into the bone of the ankle and slowly progressed to the state you see below. I spent over three months in the hospital between New Hampshire and Boston, Mass in 2004 trying to save my leg by using I.V. antibiotics and a bone fusion in the right ankle and foot. These efforts failed and on August 19th 2004, I lost the battle to save my right leg in order to save my life. I know the pain and suffering I went through and that others face on a daily basis. It inspired me to try and help my fellow amputees and diabetics by creating cleansers and lotions that can aid in the cleanliness and conditioning of the residual limb and its skin care. Proper skin care therapy is of the utmost importance if we wish to prevent future and unnecessary problems.

Below are Pictures of the attempts to save my left foot from amputation. Due to a bone infection caused by the main metatarsal bone in my left foot (beneath where the big toe would be) I experienced a reoccurring ulcer on the base of my foot caused by the pressure of the bone pushing on through. From January thru April 2009 I endured 4 painful surgical procedures that failed time and again. Each surgery kept me in the hospital from 7-10 days with to nursing home stays of a week each of continued treatment. At fifty-one years old, I didn’t much like being in a nursing home, but that is another story. Once my Doctors sent me to Boston, which has some of the finest hospitals in the world, I found the help I desperately needed and I have since healed completely.
